My friend and neighbor, Johnny Gates, raised and trained these two horses. He had just been in the Sierras, so the horses give the impression of having gone Many a Mile.

My inspiration was also peaked by several turn of the century old western illustrations, using this loose watercolor style which gives a sunny, dusty, Western feel.
